Program Goals

The Cynthiana Main Street is an accredited Kentucky Main Street Program. It is based on a four-point approach developed by the National Main Street Center, a division of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The four components of the program are: Organization, Promotion, Design and Economic Restructuring. The goal of this program is to encourage downtown revitalization and economic development within the context of historic preservation.

Downtown Beautification

  • Seasonal flowers

  • Repotting dead plants/shrubs

  • Host Downtown Clean-up Days

  • Fall decor on Main and Pike Street pots

 

Downtown Design and Streetscape

  • Developing Streetscape Design plans

  • Planning for additional trash cans

  • City Lot/Key Market Parking Lot Improvements, Beatification, & Signage

  • Collaborating with Cynthiana Arts Council on mural project

  • Working on selected abandoned buildings (historic preservation, supporting real estate, identifying potential business opportunities)

 

Communication

  • Develop digital newsletters and better means of communication between businesses to support community development and involvement.

 

Program Awareness

  • Increase downtown awareness and build community pride through social media presence.

  • Develop effective organization committee to better communicate with the community and explain the importance of the Main Street program.

Current /Future Projects
 

Supporting Structure of CMS

  • Currently identifying new members to serve on committees

  • Moved CMS office to old Harrison Deposit Bank location, next to Chamber to foster a one-stop shop

 

Economic Development

  • Conducting Downtown Business Assessment/Analysis

  • Identifying business/community needs

  • Advocating for beautification/infrastrucure needs to draw and support businesses and resident to downtown area

  • Currently seeking and writing grants to support streetscape projects, facade improvements, and community events.

 

 

Grant Funding​​

  • Exploring Local Foods, Local Places grant; Levitt Amp grant, Renaissance on Main Grant, and more.

  • Ongoing research for historic preservation and infrastructure funding to support downtown Cynthiana.
